If you are using it a lot it is probably worth shelling out a few extra dollars for a rollaway bed that is more comfortable, durable and better looking. If on the other hand you are only using it once a year a cheaper model is probably more appropriate.

Mattress Quality

Whatever one you choose you cannot lose sight of the fact that somebody is actually going to be sleeping on it!!! The quality of their nights sleep will probably be largely dependent on the mattress. Again depending on how often you are going to use the rollaway bed you should select your mattress accordingly. Be on the lookout for the beds that now sport orthopedic mattresses – these can provide a VERY comfortable nights sleep – and the prices are not too bad

Size

You will need to decide what size of rollaway bed you will need. This largely depends on how many and what type of guests you normally have at your home. Do you have a lot of couples sleeping over? In that case a smaller model is probably not going to meet your needs. You need something a little bigger that can accommodate two people. But if most of your guests are children then you can probably get away with a much smaller rollaway bed.

Weight/Ease Of Opening & Closing

For some people the weight of the rollaway bed is going to play a critical factor in selection. If you have the thing down in the basement but don’t have the strength to get it up the stairs you are going to have a problem. Similarly if you are a little older you need to look fr a rollaway bed that is light and easy to open and close.

Construction Quality/Materials

Finally you want to look at exactly how your rollaway bed was manufactured. This will also play into the weight and size of the bed but you should be on the lookout for the quality of craftsmanship. Do the joints look good? Does it rattle and shake too much? Look for well made joints. Hollow steel tubing can make for excellent quality without too much additional weight. Remember the rollaway bed will take a lot of movement (typically) so you need one that is going to last
